I have to admit, sometimes I only check voicemail once per week and I tell people quite directly that the easiest way to reach me is to text me. With all the one-click usability enhancements in all interfaces we use today, the multi-key voicemail systems have become obsolete.
In fact, just as cable remote controls have become unnecessarily complicated (count on your cable/satellite remote how many different buttons there are just for scrolling up or down) voicemail systems are getting more and more complicated.
For example, my office phone system requires a 9-digit password, and switching options takes pressing 2 digits instead of one. Makes me wonder if the guys who designed cable remote controls engineered these voicemail systems as well.
Outside of the office I use google voicemail, I get my voice messages texted and emailed to me, and have the convenience of only listening to the message of my choosing straight from my email box. It also comes with the hilarity of reading google’s voice to text interpretations, such as when “Cleise Brazilian Spa” called and the google transcript said my message was from “Crazy bird city”…
Do you get annoyed with voice mail? What’s your story? :)
