Should You Delete Facebook?

This week’s hot topic has been whether or not it’s time to delete Facebook. Here’s a quick explanation of the link between the harvested Facebook data and Cambridge Analytica, and what you can do to protect your information moving forward.

The impact in a nutshell:

  • As of December 2017, Facebook had 2.13 billion users.
  • Due to revelations about Cambridge Analytica, Facebook lost almost $50 billion in market value. Stocks are still down almost 17 percent since the story came to light on March 16.
  • Nearly 400,000 users tweeted about #DeleteFacebook, but data shows that users are actually downloading the app and using Facebook more.

For all of our clients, I recommend taking the time to delete apps you are no longer using and to consider the privacy settings before you sign into more sites using your Facebook login.

I spoke with Fox 32 Chicago on Wednesday and Thursday about how you can protect yourself. Watch those videos and don’t forget to check your settings!

You can read more about the changes Facebook is making here. If you have any questions about the recent changes, please reach out and let me know. At Lightspan, we’re always happy to help.
