This week’s hot topic has been whether or not it’s time to delete Facebook. Here’s a quick explanation of the link between the harvested Facebook data and Cambridge Analytica, and what you can do to protect your information moving forward.
The impact in a nutshell:
- As of December 2017, Facebook had 2.13 billion users.
- Due to revelations about Cambridge Analytica, Facebook lost almost $50 billion in market value. Stocks are still down almost 17 percent since the story came to light on March 16.
- Nearly 400,000 users tweeted about #DeleteFacebook, but data shows that users are actually downloading the app and using Facebook more.
For all of our clients, I recommend taking the time to delete apps you are no longer using and to consider the privacy settings before you sign into more sites using your Facebook login.
I spoke with Fox 32 Chicago on Wednesday and Thursday about how you can protect yourself. Watch those videos and don’t forget to check your settings!
