Social media marketing is most effective when distribute content that is relevant to our audiences, where and when it is interesting to them. Social media conversation has a very timely aspect to it, moves very fast, and we have to be very quick to jump in on topics that are trending. And often social media trending topics vary by geography.
How to target messages by geography has been a challenge particularly for businesses that cannot manage multiple Facebook pages and Twitter accounts. So let’s say that you have a retail store in Minneapolis and one in Chicago, but only one Facebook page for both. You just don’t have enough resources to manage both. Football season comes around but you can’t talk about football because your Vikings don’t want to hear about the Bears and the Bears don’t want to hear about the Vikings.
Luckily, Facebook pages have a lesser known feature that enables you to target your posts by geography. Here is a quick tutorial (only 1 minute long) on how to use it to talk to your Bears and your Vikings separately. NOTE: You may want to click on the video and go to YouTube to watch it. There you will be able to maximize the video so you can see the screen details.
